How Do You Get Panic Attacks?

They can be terrifying, but how do you get panic attacks?

 

The first few months I was getting them I thought I was dying and/or losing my mind. I would stay awake all night so that I wouldn’t die in my sleep.

 

The first step to dealing with the panic attacks was understanding why I was getting them. Next I learned to deal with them, and lastly I learned to stop them completely (which is really why I’m telling you this, because you will be able to stop getting panic attacks too).

 

Okay, So How DO You Get Panic Attacks?

 

There are several causes of panic attacks. In my case it was due to a period of existing mostly on chocolates, coffee and stress. Very unwise. I virtually gave myself hypoglycemia. And one symptom of hypoglycemia is panic attacks.

 

I was having severe panic attacks that involved pure terror, sweating, shaking and faintness more than once a day. So once I found I had hypoglycemia, I greatly reduced the number and severity of attacks by following a very strict diet.

 

How do you get panic attacks does not have a simple answer. There are a large number of triggers, including heredity, reaction to chemicals, reaction to medications, too much caffeine or diet pills, a shocking event, phobias, serious illnesses and even an unassertive personality.

 

If the trigger isn’t clear, you need to approach the issue from a different viewpoint.

 

It took me nearly a year to reduce the number of attacks to one every few weeks, by diet restrictions alone. Then I had to move to what I consider to be step 2. This was changing my attitude to the attacks. By then I knew they wouldn’t kill me, but they were still occurring and I dreaded the feeling that one was coming on.

And then I took help. I think of this system as “magic”. My panic attacks STOPPED! I haven’t had one in 4 years, even though I eat sugar and drink coffee now. The technique is easy, and a great blessing. No more dread of an attack coming coming on. No more sweating and waiting it out.
